Patti Smith Wins National Book Award for Nonfiction

The rocker's memoir, Just Kids, about bohemian New York of the sixties and seventies, won the prize. Lord of Misrule, a relatively obscure novel about horse racing in West Virginia, won the prize for fiction. (Jonathan Franzen's Freedom was not nominated.) [NYT]
What a badass. Probably the most interesting--and certainly the most glamorous--National Book Award winner in quite some time.
