Juliette Binoche's Tuscan Romance

"CANNES — Abbas Kiarostami, the Palme d’Or winner in 1997 for “A Taste of Cherry,” shot “Certified Copy,” which is in competition here, last June during the heat of Iran’s political turmoil. The director celebrated his 69th birthday in Luciagno, Italy, the site of the film, far from home. He made “Certified Copy” in English, which he speaks, and French and Italian, which he hasn’t mastered. Mr. Kiarostami is famous for his films in Farsi, made in cars, villages and the countryside, with a camera aimed at anonymous faces.

“Certified Copy,” set in Tuscan village cafes and churches, depicts an intense encounter between a man and a woman who have never met. Or have they? It is Mr. Kiarostami’s first feature film made outside Iran and with an international star, Juliette Binoche. Yet it remains true to his focus on veiled appearances and human contradictions."
Will Netflix this, if for no other reason than Juliette Binoche. She is a treasure; no wonder the French press calls her La Binoche. She dances, she paints, she does great work, makes great choices, she even made a stir at Cannes (this one?) with a political protest. To me, she can do no wrong.
