Frank Gehry chosen for Eisenhower memorial

The New York Times reports that one of four designs by Frank Gehry for the Eisenhower Memorial has been chosen by the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial Commission for a four-acre site at the base of Capitol Hill in Washington, the commission announced yesterday. Mr. Gehry was selected in March 2009 after a competition through the General Services Administration’s Design Excellence Program, which asked him to create several options. In making its selection, below, the commission said it considered aesthetic and thematic issues, environmental impact, and estimated construction costs. Still subject to final approval, the memorial will be between Fourth and Sixth Streets SW, south of Independence Avenue. Groundbreaking is planned for August 2012, with an opening scheduled for Memorial Day 2015."
What would honest Ike make of whatever gets put up in his name? Who knows.
